How The Schrijver Damp Control System Works |
|
The Schrijver Systeem® is a Dutch invention named after the inventor Mr. Schrijver. The system is specially developed to tackle the problems caused by excessive damp. Since 1976, the system has been produced and installed to full customer satisfaction in over 25,000 homes in Holland. The system has also been installed into properties in Belgium, France, Portugal and Spain.
Only after extensive laboratory tests and the results of test houses did the system receive its official patent in 1988. In the same year the system won first prize in the Dutch national competition for inventions (Nationale ideeenbus).
HOW THIS SYSTEM WORKS
The Schrijver Systeem® is a humidity regulating system which consists of a stone element (and in the case of a cavity wall a tube is also used to channel the moisture). The whole system is fixed in a specially prepared niche in the outside wall. Through an opening in the element, dry air can flow into the system from the outside environment. This air is led directly to the two air chambers.
A second opening in the system causes a draught. This leads to a drop in temperature within the tube and as a result a cold bridge is created, this happens because humidity is deposited on the coldest spot and is in turn transported outside by the natural airflow. In the same way, condensation from within the house also disappears.
Our own specialists install the Schrijver Systeem® around the building in the outside walls (approx. 2.1 – 2.2 elements per meter) at about 35 cm above ground level. The element should be placed in a closed system around the building. By means of this intensive method of natural ventilation, damp will be constantly withdrawn from the property through the exterior walls.

Whereas damp proofing techniques rely on chemicals the Schrijver Systeem® relies on the outside environment to dry out the walls in your home. The system is a very natural and environmentally friendly solution which does not use chemicals or involve complicated construction work.
The Schrijver Systeem® has been successfully fixed in both insulated and non-insulated houses and in both single brick and cavity walls. It can be easily placed in both new and existing houses, and even buildings of special significance such as monuments, castles and churches.
SUMMARY
The Schrijver Systeem® is an essential factor in eliminating, preventing and controlling problems caused by damp. The multifunctional results (dry walls and a decrease in the relative humidity within the house) brought about by this system, means that you can achieve a dryer and healthy living environment and a possible decrease in heating bills. The system requires little maintenance once it's been installed.
Once the Schrijver Systeem® is installed the system needs little or no maintenance, to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the system you will need to implement adequate maintenance on your property.
A unique, effective and environmentally friendly way to treat the problems caused by damp within your home.
